Theme: Cities Reinvented by a Single Iconic Museum
A single bold museum can rewrite how the world sees a city. Bilbao's shipyards gave way to Frank Gehry's titanium curves and the 'Bilbao Effect' entered urban planning vocabulary. Kanazawa, once known mainly for lacquerware, became a contemporary art pilgrimage thanks to its circular glass museum, while Metz gained a striking Pompidou outpost far from Paris. Inhotim, deep in Brazilian countryside with no real town at all, proves a museum can conjure a destination from almost nothing.
