MapTapTime

The free daily geography game

MapTapTime gives you five mystery places a day and one unlabeled 3D globe. No borders you can lean on, no city names — just the shape of the world. Tap where you think each place is: the closer your guess and the faster you finish, the higher your score. One puzzle a day, the same five places for everyone on Earth.

How to play

  1. Read the prompt. Each round names a place with a clarifying label — like "Find: Chicago, Illinois" or "Find: Paris, Texas" — so you always know exactly which place is meant.
  2. Spin the globe and tap. Rotate and zoom the unlabeled 3D globe, then tap where you believe the city is.
  3. See the reveal. After each guess the real location appears with your distance and points.
  4. Five rounds, easy to hard. Round one is world-famous; round five is deliberately obscure — and worth the most.
  5. Discover the theme. When you finish, the day's hidden theme is revealed: all five cities secretly share one — Winter Olympic hosts, cities on the Danube, five different towns named Paris…

How scoring works

Accuracy: each round pays up to 100 points based on distance — a tap within 25 km is a perfect score, and points fall off smoothly from there. Later rounds carry multipliers (round four scores double, round five triple), for up to 800 accuracy points per game.

Speed: finishing fast earns a bonus of up to +30% on top of your accuracy score. Take your time and the bonus fades; there's no penalty beyond that.

Frequently asked questions

Is MapTapTime free?

Yes. Today's puzzle is free in your browser — no account, download, or sign-up needed.

When does the new puzzle come out?

Every day at midnight US Eastern time. Everyone plays the same five places each day.

What are the daily themes?

Each day's five cities secretly share a theme, revealed with a short write-up only after you finish — so it never spoils the game.

Can I play with friends?

Share your result card with anyone. Accounts with streaks and a leaderboard are currently invite-based — and MapTapTime Pro, with private leaderboards and groups for friends, families, and workplaces, is coming soon. Join the waitlist in the game.

Do I need to know every city to enjoy it?

No. Rounds run easy to hard, a rough guess on the right continent still earns points, and you pick up a little geography every day.
