Theme: Towns Cut in Two by a National Border

Some towns never got to choose which country they'd belong to — a line drawn by treaty or war simply sliced them apart. Baarle's houses are so entangled with the Dutch-Belgian frontier that doormats mark which nation you're standing in. Görlitz and Zgorzelec share a single Silesian street plan split by the Neisse river after 1945, while Kerkrade's tram once rolled straight across into Herzogenrath. Narva and Ivangorod still stare at each other across a river from opposite sides of a fortress-guarded frontier.
