Theme: Islands That Are Also Volcanoes You Can Climb
Each of these islands is itself a single volcanic cone rising straight from the sea, small enough to circle in a day yet tall enough to summit. Stromboli has erupted almost continuously for centuries, earning its nickname as the Lighthouse of the Mediterranean. Taal sits inside a lake within another volcano, while Barren Island stands alone as South Asia's only active volcanic island. Together they show how the same fiery geology can shape islands across wildly different oceans.
